Back to School, Back To You

Back-to-school season brings a fresh routine—but for many parents, it also means putting their own health and wellness on the back burner. Between school drop-offs, homework, activities, work, and household responsibilities, it’s easy for your needs to take a back seat.

But taking care of yourself isn’t selfish—it’s essential.

Regular exercise can

  • Improve heart health
  • Strengthen muscles and bones
  • Increase energy
  • Reduce stress
  • Boost your mood
  • Help you feel more focused.
Even small amounts of movement can make a difference.

Your kids are watching, too.

They notice how you care for yourself, manage stress, and make time for your well-being. When they see you exercising and prioritizing your health, they learn that movement and self-care are important parts of life. You’re showing them that wellness is about feeling strong, healthy, and confident—not perfection or appearance.

Getting back into a routine doesn’t have to mean spending hours at the gym. Schedule workouts like any other appointment, choose activities you enjoy, and set realistic goals. If you miss a class, don’t give up—a 20-minute walk, a quick home workout, or active family time still counts.

Start with a schedule you can realistically maintain, whether that means exercising two or three days a week, taking a daily walk, or spending a few minutes stretching. Small steps can build momentum and help make healthy habits a natural part of your routine.

Don’t wait for life to slow down. There will always be another appointment, school event, or responsibility. Instead, find small opportunities to move and make your health part of your everyday routine.

When you take care of yourself, you have more energy, patience, and resilience for your family. This back-to-school season, make room for yourself. Your health matters—and by prioritizing it, you’re teaching your children to value theirs also.
